**Responsibilities of the Senior Process Engineer**


In the role of Senior Process Engineer, individuals work collaboratively as part of the technical team, contributing to the successful design, implementation, and operation of moving bed heat exchange equipment on a global scale. The engineer participates in projects spanning various applications, from sugar production to the advancement of solar-thermal electricity generation. Supported by an experienced and diverse team, the Senior Process Engineer has opportunities to mentor and develop junior staff, with pathways for career and technical expertise growth.


The Senior Process Engineer undertakes a variety of duties supporting the Process Engineering team, focusing on the development of process engineering deliverables and enhancing the quality of internal tools and knowledge.


**Key Tasks include:**


- Developing and stamping/sealing process engineering deliverables, encompassing Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Heat & Material Balances (HMBs), Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Control Narratives, equipment datasheets, hydraulic/pneumatic calculations, and heat transfer calculations.

- Leading and participating in process hazards analyses, including What-Ifs, HAZOPs, and HAZIDs.

- Supporting the registration of pressure vessels and piping, including the design of PSVs and OPPSD.

- Supervising and validating process simulations for the design of new heat transfer equipment.

- Supporting field commissioning activities and troubleshooting heat exchange equipment. Assisting commissioning teams during equipment start-ups, as needed.

- Establishing data requirements for equipment performance validation and conducting data post-processing activities.

- Validating that equipment installs meet thermal intent, operating efficiently and safely.

- Mentoring junior engineers and supporting their EIT development.


**Qualifications and Skills**


Candidates for this role should possess the following qualifications:


- Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.

- P.Eng. designation in Alberta.

- 15+ years of Process Engineering experience.

- Deep knowledge of transport phenomena and thermodynamics.

- Advanced knowledge of regulatory requirements for industry codes and standards both in Alberta and internationally, including ABSA, NFPA, ANSI, PED, and ASME.

- Advanced proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen/HYSYS), including specialized platforms associated with sizing/rating of heat transfer equipment (e.g., HTRI, ASPEN EDR).


In addition to the stated qualifications, successful candidates will demonstrate the following skills:


- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

- Strong ability/affinity to develop programming code/software to solve new engineering problems – e.g., in Python, VBA, etc.

- Familiarity with management of change.

- Keen awareness of the interplay between budget, schedule, and safety constraints.

- Excellent communication skills and the capability to interact with peers, project managers, site managers, clients, and all engineering disciplines.


**Working Conditions**


- Home office and office-based (Calgary).

- Some travel may be required.

- Occasional overtime.
